2008 may have been our greatest challenge yet, but also included some
wonderful new additions! Because the cement pads were just poured on the
Thursday, we had to build the roofs on the ground and utilize a crane to lift
each one in place. Although threatening for most of the weekend, the skies
really opened up on Saturday morning. The cabin site was a mud bath. Not
wanting to lose any time, however, we quickly responded by spreading hay over
the entire area. Good thing we'd held our first official safety seminar for
our volunteers, because we were all very aware of "Safety First". None-the-less,
the spirit of the event was not dampened at all due to everyone's
contributions, including our numerous Corporate Volunteers from AON and PCL
Contracting who attended opening day and worked tirelessly.
